I’ve loved Kevin Henkes books ever since I read Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse as a 3rd grader. I found this book a few years ago in a shop when a friend was going to have her 2nd 👶🏽. And when we found out we were expecting our little lulu, I added it to our shelf as well.

Winner of the Caldecott Honor and the Theodore Seuss Geisel Honor, this is a story about 5 special toys who are waiting for unique things. When a new toy shows up, they are curious to find out if she too is waiting for something.

We have to wait for a lot of things a lot of the time and this is a great book to start that conversation in a whimsical, well illustrated way.

It reminds me of “the waiting place” in Dr. Seuss’ Oh the Places You’ll Go and the story in Waiting is the everyday example of when and how we get out of that waiting game.
