Emily

Emily by Michael Bedard, illustrated by the beautiful, wish-she-could-have-illustrated-a-book-for-me, Barbara Cooney

This is one of the first books I ever owned for myself, hence the book sleeve missing 🤷🏼‍♀️.

It is visually and lyrically beautiful from start to finish. The book is about a little girl who lived down the street from Emily Dickinson. They are able to have a sweetly surprising friendship, filled with a cheerful and mysterious charm.

My favorite lines from the book:
‘I stood beside her. Our dresses were snow. I looked down at the paper in her lap. “Is that poetry?” I asked. “No, you are poetry. This only tries to be.”

If you’d like to add a little quiet beauty to your day and life, add this book to your children’s lives and yours.

It is a bit long, so depending on who your child is and how old they are, you may need to save this one for a time when you can sit for a bit. It is well worth the time.

✨a million/5
